The edge of the frame and its relationship to objects in space are used to keep the eye moving back and forth and around and about. There are the literal meanings of space as in a deep blue sky, echoes of the blackness of outer space in the shadows with its sometimes adjoining border, and finally, the aesthetic use of negative space.
